Looking down the steep escarpment across the valley, I catch glimpses of the meandering River Severn in the distance. This ancient river once scored this escarpment where I now stand. No wonder it was a major fortification and strategic outlook to countless generations. Did the Romans rest their elephants here before leading them down to the Glevum garrison?
